Hindu marriage biodata format

What's different about a Hindu biodata, and what stays exactly the same.

Most of a Hindu marriage biodata is identical to any other — personal details, family, education, career, contact. A few specific things are usually added on top, mainly for horoscope matching, and it's worth knowing what those are before you start.

What's usually added

  • Rashi (moon sign) and Nakshatra, if your family matches horoscopes
  • Manglik status — yes, no, or partial
  • Gotra, caste and sub-caste, if your family looks at these
  • A religious symbol at the top of the page, most often Om

None of this is universal even within Hindu families — some skip horoscope matching entirely, others treat it as essential. There's no harm leaving a field blank if it doesn't apply; a biodata reads perfectly well without it.

Choosing a symbol

Om is the most common choice at the top of a Hindu biodata, but it's not the only one — Ganesha, Swastik, Kalash, Trishul and Lotus are all traditional options too, and leaving it off entirely is just as valid. The builder above starts with exactly this choice, including "prefer not to say."

Everything else stays the same

Once the religious section is settled, the rest of the biodata — family details, education, career, contact — works exactly like it would for anyone else. The builder's religious and astrological step covers all of the above in one place, so there's nothing extra to look up separately.
